Wood Signs

a.k.a. the nitty gritty stuff you should know

Terms and Conditions – Wood Signs

Congratulations, you are reserving a semi private workshop (table reservations) for WOOD SIGN/TRAY/LAZY SUSAN seats at a Drop-In & DIY | Open Session. Due to the preparation needed in advance, everyone in your group is required to complete their own project, a WOOD SIGN/TRAY/LAZY SUSAN.   This is a semi-private event, which guarantees that you will be seated together.  There may be other makers present at your table and in the studio.

Please find below a full disclosure of our TERMS and CONDITIONS. You will be required to accept these terms and conditions upon registration. We do our very best to be fair, and our policies allow us to create DIY happiness as well as your safety and enjoyment, as well as those around you and of course, our creative team. Happy making!

Your Semi-Private Workshop Deposit:

We require a minimum of four (4) attendees and a $120 deposit for a private event. Each participant is required to complete their own project. You, the organizer\host\hostess is financially responsible for meeting the minimum number of four (4) attendees regardless of their attendance.

IMPORTANT: You, as the host/hostess, are still required to register for the event and select a design option, personalization (if applicable) and pay for the project itself. You will be able to do so after the private listing is uploaded tour website. Your deposit of $120 is a deposit to hold the date, not payment for the sign.

To receive a full refund of your deposit; you MUST have the minimum number of guests (including yourself) register AND attend your event. A minimum of four (4) attendees is required. Deposit refunds will occur after your event and within two business days and will be issued on the original card used to reserve the event.

If you need to reschedule your event, you may do so ONE time with no penalty providing we have a minimum of ten (10) days in advance. Date changes with less than ten (10) days in advance will result in a loss of your deposit. A new deposit of $120 will be required to secure a new date.

ONE Project Per Person:

Due to the nature of our studio and size limitations, each person in attendance must be registered to create their own project. Unfortunately, we do not allow sharing of projects.

The Nature of Wood and Wood Signs

Wood is a natural product and with that comes interesting patterns in the grain, knots, blemishes, cracks, appearance of sap and other characteristics inherent with wood and handcrafting.  Further, wood may absorb stain and colors differently and there may be some bleeding of paint.  This is due to many factors such as age of the wood, origin, humidity levels and of course the application of materials.  We embrace these imperfections as it’s the nature of handcrafted home décor.  We have a process to minimize imperfections, much like that of a recipe and ask that you trust our {DIY} Creatologists along the journey of raw lumber to a finished piece of home décor.

Length of Workshop:

Our workshops are scheduled for three hours, and we ask everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.  Arriving early is the key to a timely start and finish.

Change in Personalization:

Be sure to double check your spelling, dates and anything else that is unique to your sign.  Supplies, including a customized stencil and pre-cut lumber, are prepared three (3) days in advance.  You are welcome to make any changes prior to 72 hours at no additional cost.  Please send an email with your request to  If you need to make any changes 24 – 72 hours before the scheduled start of your workshop, a $15 stencil/administration fee will be charged and is due at the beginning of your workshop.  Unfortunately, we cannot make any changes with less than 24 hours’ notice.

Cancellation Policy:

We do not offer refunds at any time. If a registered guest is unable to attend this event; we will gladly issue a full credit (100%) on their account with more than 24 hours’ notice. A 50% credit will be applied to their account 1 – 24 hours’ notice. No shows will not receive any credit or refund.

IMPORTANT: THE BOARD BAR reserves the right to cancel this event if the minimum amount of registrations is not met by the workshop deadline; which is seventy-two (72) hours before the workshop.

EXTRA IMPORTANT: Registered guests must notify THE BOARD BAR if they are unable to attend. Notifying the host/hostess only and not communicating directly with THE BOARD BAR does not qualify for a credit. Use this link to notify us if there is a need to cancel and reschedule;

Credits can be applied to a future workshop with availability. Please contact the studio so that we can properly apply your credit and complete your registration when you decide to sign up for an alternate workshop.

We understand that life happens and sometimes unforeseen circumstances pop up. You are always welcome to send someone in your place – though we don’t get involved in the finances of this transaction. Collecting from your replacement will be your responsibility.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. This will give you time to find parking, your seat and get comfortable so that we can start the workshop on time.

Our workshops follow a tight, instructor-led schedule for your enjoyment and the safety of those around you.

We start promptly at the time stated at registration. Guests arriving up to 15 minutes late will join the group at whatever point the workshop has progressed to and may not have the opportunity to select a preferred scent. Guests arriving more than 15 minutes will have scent selected for them or forfeit their project and registration. As with any scheduled situation, if you are running late, it is best to notify our staff or a friend, so that we are prepared.

Age of Participants:

For our morning and afternoon workshops, teens are permitted along with a participating/registered adult. Each person in attendance must be registered and working on their own project, we do not offer “shared” projects.  In addition, we are primarily an adult studio, so there may be alcohol present if other guests choose to bring it with them.

For our evening workshops, we ask that our makers are at least 18 years old.

Exception:  If you have scheduled a private event, it at your discretion or that of the host/hostess/coordinator as to the minimum age to attend. The other exception is if you have received express permission from The Board Bar in advance.  In either exception, we do not have extra staff or time to give extra assistance to our young makers; it’s just simply not the nature of our studio.

You are permitted to bring your alcohol to our workshops and events. However, there are a few rules that you need to be aware of and that we take very seriously, per TABC and the City of McKinney:

Minors Possessing or Consuming Alcohol – The punishment for making alcoholic beverages available to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $4,000, confinement in jail for up to a year, or both. Additionally, the violator will have his or her driver’s license automatically suspended for 180 days upon conviction.

Persons 21 or older (other than the parent or guardian) can be held liable for damages caused by intoxication of a minor under 18 if the adult knowingly provided alcoholic beverages to a minor or knowingly allowed the minor to be served or provided alcoholic beverages on the premises owned or leased by the adult.

You cannot, under any circumstances, leave our studio with an open container. The sidewalk is off limits – you must leave your glass of vino (or beverage of choice) inside the store.

An alcohol waiver is included in the Terms and Conditions when you register. Here is the waiver for your review;

ALCOHOL POLICY/WAIVER (if applicable):

I agree that I am 21 years of age or older and will consume my alcoholic beverages responsibly. We respectfully ask that you be smart and responsible when it comes to enjoying some libations; someone is counting on you coming home at the end of the day!  IMPORTANT:  Our team is dedicated to your safety.  If we feel you are intoxicated or impaired, The Board Bar will take the following steps in this order:

(1) Seek a designated driver in the workshop to take you home.
(2) If no driver is available, we will ask for a name and phone number of someone who can pick you up.
(3) If there is no one available to pick you up, we will offer to call Uber or Lyft, your choice.
(4) If you refuse steps 1 – 3, we will call 911 and let law enforcement handle the situation.

No one wants to get to step 4; please drink responsibly.
