Private Workshop Terms and Conditions

Drop-In & DIY | Open Session Projects

a.k.a. the nitty gritty stuff you should know

Terms and Conditions – DIY Option

Congratulations, you are reserving a private event before/after studio hours. Please find below a full disclosure of our TERMS and CONDITIONS. You will be required to accept these terms and conditions upon registration. We do our very best to be fair, and our policies allow us to create DIY happiness as well as your safety and enjoyment, as well as those around you and of course, our creative team. Happy making!

Your Private Event Deposit:

We require a minimum of ten (10) attendees and a $120 deposit for a private event. Each participant is required to complete their own project. You, the organizer\host\hostess is financially responsible for meeting the minimum number of ten (10) attendees regardless of their attendance.  Since there is a range of projects with different prices, guests will be required to register and pay $35 towards their project.  If the project they choose at the event is more or a less, a credit will be issued or balance due at that time.  If your event will be a group invoice, a total of $350 + tax will be due 72 hours in advance. If the total on the day of the event is more or less, a credit or balance due will be issued.

IMPORTANT: You, as the host/hostess, are still required to register for the event and select a design option, personalization (if applicable) and pay for the project itself. You will be able to do so after the private listing is uploaded tour website. Your deposit of $120 is a deposit to hold the date, not payment for the sign.

To receive a full refund of your deposit; you MUST have the minimum number of guests (including yourself) register AND attend your event. A minimum of ten (10) attendees is required. Deposit refunds will occur after your event and within two business days and will be issued on the original card used to reserve the event.

If you need to reschedule your event, you may do so ONE time with no penalty providing we have a minimum of ten (10) days in advance. Date changes with less than ten (10) days in advance will result in a loss of your deposit. A new deposit of $120 will be required to secure a new date.

ONE Project Per Person:

Due to the nature of our studio and size limitations, each person in attendance must be registered to create their own project. Unfortunately, we do not allow sharing of projects.

The Nature of Drop-In & DIY

Our Drop-In & DIY | open session projects are self-guided.  While we will have a {DIY} Creatologist on hand for assistance, the projects are designed for completion on your own.  While most of the projects are make & take, there are a few that will require a return trip to pick up, such as candle making and acrylic pouring.

Length of Workshop:

Our workshops are scheduled for three hours and we ask everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.  The time for each project varies, depending on project chosen, this can range from 60 – 120 minutes.

Cancellation Policy:

We do not offer refunds at any time. If a registered guest is unable to attend this event; we will gladly issue a full credit (100%) on their account with more than 24 hours’ notice. A 50% credit will be applied to their account 1 – 24 hours’ notice. No shows will not receive any credit or refund.

EXTRA IMPORTANT: Registered guests must notify THE BOARD BAR if they are unable to attend. Notifying the host/hostess only and not communicating directly with THE BOARD BAR does not qualify for a credit. Use this link to notify us if there is a need to cancel and reschedule;

Credits can be applied to a future workshop or Drop-In & DIY with availability. Please contact the studio so that we can properly apply your credit and complete your registration when you decide to sign up for an alternate workshop.

We understand that life happens and sometimes unforeseen circumstances pop up. You are always welcome to send someone in your place – though we don’t get involved in the finances of this transaction. Collecting from your replacement will be your responsibility.

Please arrive 15 minutes before.  This will give you time to find your seats and select your project so that you are ready to begin on time.

Age of Participants:

We are primarily and adult DIY studio.  It’s not that we don’t like the littles, but rather this is geared towards grown up fun.  Tweens and teens are permitted during open studio hours, however, please be aware of the following three things:

  • There may be alcohol present, we are an adult DIY studio.
  • One project per person, this means both adult and tween/teen need to work on their own projects.
  • Drop-In & DIY hours offer self-guided projects and we do not have staff on hand to instruct step-by-step.

You are permitted to bring your alcohol to our workshops and events. However, there are a few rules that you need to be aware of and that we take very seriously, per TABC and the City of McKinney:

Minors Possessing or Consuming Alcohol – The punishment for making alcoholic beverages available to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $4,000, confinement in jail for up to a year, or both. Additionally, the violator will have his or her driver’s license automatically suspended for 180 days upon conviction.

Persons 21 or older (other than the parent or guardian) can be held liable for damages caused by intoxication of a minor under 18 if the adult knowingly provided alcoholic beverages to a minor or knowingly allowed the minor to be served or provided alcoholic beverages on the premises owned or leased by the adult.

You cannot, under any circumstances, leave our studio with an open container. The sidewalk is off limits – you must leave your glass of vino (or beverage of choice) inside the store.

An alcohol waiver is included in the Terms and Conditions when you register. Here is the waiver for your review;

ALCOHOL POLICY/WAIVER (if applicable):

I agree that I am 21 years of age or older and will consume my alcoholic beverages responsibly. I release and waive any and all claims or action that may arise against THE BOARD BAR LLC, its affiliates, successors or assigns as well as the owner and employees/contractors as a result of anything which occurs before, during or after my session including to but not limited to injury, loss, theft or damage to any person or property.

We respectfully ask that you be smart and responsible when it comes to enjoying some libations; someone is counting on you coming home at the end of the day!  IMPORTANT:  Our team is dedicated to your safety.  If we feel you are intoxicated or impaired, The Board Bar will take the following steps in this order:

(1) Seek a designated driver in the workshop to take you home.
(2) If no driver is available, we will ask for a name and phone number of someone who can pick you up.
(3) If there is no one available to pick you up, we will offer to call Uber or Lyft, your choice.
(4) If you refuse steps 1 – 3, we will call 911 and let law enforcement handle the situation.

No one wants to get to step 4; please drink responsibly.
