What is a private event?
A private event is when we open our studio just for your group. Our creative studio is a fabulous place to get your craft on and celebrate your next birthday, bridal or baby shower, bachelorette or holiday party, neighborhood get-togethers, corporate team building and /or a much needed “creative escape” with your friends and family.
What can I expect at a private event?
Unless other arrangements are agreed upon in advance; you can expect to have a fully staffed private studio for your enjoyment and candle making. This means that your event will not be open to the public.
As the host/hostess/coordinator, what are my responsibilities?
You are responsible for payment of a deposit and making sure the minimum amount of ten (10) attendees required is met both in registration and attendance. You will also be responsible for registering yourself, as your deposit is separate from your reservation.
What if I know I won’t be able to make the minimum number of attendees?

If you know in advance that you cannot meet the minimum attendance requirements but still want to get together, you are welcome to join and open workshop or reserve a Table for 6. You will still have bar space and are welcome to bring in light snacks to celebrate. Please notify us of your event and once we have 6 registrations, we will place a reserved sign on your table.

What if I only have 8 people, not 10?

You are always welcome to join a scheduled open workshop, where there are no minimums as to how many sign up in each group for an open workshop. These workshops are scattered throughout calendar and the calendar for the upcoming month is released on or about the 15th of the previous month. If you are joining an open workshop as a group, it’s helpful to reference one person’s name in the group so we can get you seated near each other.

You can also look into reserving a Table for 6. This option is available Sunday – Thursday.

What days of the week do you offer Private Events?
Currently, we offer private events 7 days a week; morning, afternoon and evenings. We do share a space with our sister studio, The Board Bar, so our calendars are shared so there is no double booking.
Why do I need to leave a deposit and what does it include?
A deposit of $120 is required to save a time slot and reserve the studio for your private event. The deposit is just simply a deposit, it does not include and candles or projects. If you are the lucky duck to leave the deposit, you will still have to register for the event as the deposit does not include any projects.
Is my deposit refundable?
In order to receive a full refund of your deposit; you MUST have the minimum number of guests (including yourself) register AND attend your event. A minimum of ten (10) attendees is required. Deposit refunds will occur after your event has started and no later than the end of the business day.
Can I apply my deposit to my project?
No, your deposit is separate from the registration fee and does not include a candles. Your deposit is simply a deposit to reserve a date on our calendar for your private event. As the host/hostess, you will also have to register and pay for your supplies and material once a link has been posted to our calendar.
What happens to my deposit if I don’t have the minimum number of reservations or registered guests in attendance?
If your private event does not meet the minimum number of registered AND attending guests; your deposit will be forfeited and you will remain financially responsible for meeting the minimum number of ten (10) in attendance.
What happens after I reserve the date and pay the deposit?

Once you reserve a date, we will contact you by email (usually within 24 hours). The email will contain a link for your event along with a super secret password for you and your guests to register and pay for their candle supplies.

Guests must register at least 72 hours in advance so that we can prepare materials for your group and be properly staffed.
IMPORTANT: You, as the host/hostess, are still required to register for the event and pay for the sign itself ($45 + tax). Your deposit of $120 is a deposit for the room space and to hold the date, not payment for the project.

What time should we arrive?
We ask our makers to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the workshop. This gives you time to find parking, check-in and start exploring the available scents so that we are ready to start right on time.
What if I am running late?

Please call us or if you have a friend already at the workshop – notify them! Our workshops follow a tight, instructor-led schedule for your enjoyment and the safety of those around you. Additionally, soy wax typically needs at least an hour to rest and set after it is poured and this can change depending on temperatures and humidity. A timely start is the key to taking your candles home the same day!

We start promptly at the time stated at registration. Guests arriving up to 15 minutes late will join the group at whatever point the workshop has progressed to and will be asked to make a quick scent selection. Guests arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be allowed to work on their project and will forfeit their registration. As with any scheduled situation, if you are running late, it is best to notify our staff or a friend, so that we are prepared.

What happens if a registered guest cannot make it?

We are very upfront and honest about our refund policy in that we do not offer refunds at anytime. If we are given at least 24 hours notice of the person who cannot attend, we will apply a 100% credit to their account. Credits can be used at any workshop, providing there is availability and they never expire. If we receive less than 24 hours notice, a 50% credit will be applied to their accounts.

NO shows will not receive and credit or refund.

We understand that life happens and sometimes unforeseen circumstances pop up. You are always welcome to send someone in your place – though we don’t get involved in the finances of this transaction. Collecting from your replacement will be your responsibility.

Registered guests MUST notify CANDLE {CRUSH} STUDIO if they cannot attend. Notifying the host only and not communicating directly with CANDLE {CRUSH} STUDIO does not qualify for a credit.

I organized the date and now no one can attend, what do I do?
Yikes, that is a bummer! You are welcome to reschedule your event one (1) time providing that we have at least 10 days notice.
I understand that each person gets to make two candles, can we share a project and workspace?
YES, each person makes two candles. And NO, you cannot share projects and here’s why… Each person will choose 1 scent to fill a 12oz and 4 oz jar. The metal stamping project is for the 12oz candle, so the person getting the 4oz candle isn’t getting much of an experience and that’s no fun. In addition, we are not equipped for sharing and to preserve the experience for all of our chandlers, we require a registration for each person in attendance.
Can I bring alcohol?
Yes, you are welcome to partake in adult libations, providing you are at least 21 years of age and understand our alcohol policy and TABC laws. You may not cross the threshold (go outside) with an open container of alcohol at any time or for any length of time, including a quick phone call.
We have a cork opener and cups for your convenience.
Can I bring food? Snacks? Pizza? Birthday cake?

Sure! We want you to make the most of your 2-hour creative escape at our workshop. While food is not necessary, you are welcome to bring in light snacks. There will not be time for a sit down meal, but there will be time while our candles are setting to grab something to eat – or celebrate a special occasion with cake and or cupcakes.

If you opt to buy pizza from one of our local pizza restaurants (Cadillac Pizza or Mellow Mushroom), please note that often there is a 45 – 60 minute wait during peak times and they do not deliver. If you need to pick up pizza, please plan accordingly and bring it will you when you arrive (to be eaten after we pour wax, the 2nd hour of the workshop) or pick up after wax is poured. Our number one priority is to stay on schedule and pour wax earlier enough so that you can take your candles home.

What else do I need to bring?
Yourself, your enthusiasm and your willingness to relax, learn and create. This is truly a handcrafted, hand-poured project and there will be imperfections – especially using a natural wax, like soy wax. Take a deep breath; it’s ok.
What tools and supplies will I be using?

Hot wax! Our soy wax is heated to 180+ degrees, so it’s hot! We are also working with fragrance oils and chandler tools such as glass beakers, scales, thermometers and glue guns. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to work with metal stamping tools, such as metal stamps and a hammer.

Please note that studio shares a space with our sister studio, The Board Bar. While we are not directly working with The Board Bar tools, you may be exposed to sawdust (natural pine), water-based stains and latex paint.

If you have allergies to soy and or latex, please consult a physician before crafting in our space.

How long is the workshop?

Our workshops are scheduled for two hours and we ask everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.  The first 30 – 45 minutes is the “creative” portion of the workshop with the last 90 minutes being the “social” part of the experience.  It is important to know that due to humidity levels, ambient temperatures, certain fragrances used and actual start time, candles take 90+ minutes to set once they are poured.  While waiting for candles to solidify, this downtime is ideal for relaxing, socializing, enjoying a sip or two, mingling with new friends and old and of course, you are welcome to walk around downtown McKinney.

If your candle is not ready for the journey home at the end of the workshop or you wish to leave early, we will provide instructions for picking it up a later date.

I have a favorite essential oil, can I bring it with me to use in my candle?

Great idea, unfortunately, there’s a good chance it will not work so we ask that you only use the approved premium fragrance oils we have in the studio. The burn and melt pool is often unpredictable with essential oils and varies greatly from oil to oil. In addition, the hot throw (scent of a burning candle) is often unpredictable or poor at best, with essential oils.

I am sensitive to fragrances, do you have any options for me?

We sure do!  We understand that fragrant candles may not be everyone’s cup of tea and some people are more sensitive to smells than others.  With this in mind, we encourage attending a workshop and making a scentless soy candle.  Yes!  There is such a beast.  You will have the same experience, with the exception of the scent exploration.  We use 100% soy for wax along with cotton wicks, so it’s a clean burn.  If you omit the fragrance, you can still enjoy the ambiance of a burning candle.

I have my own vessel (or jars from a previous workshop), can I bring them with me to use?
At this time, we are only using the new jars that come with each workshop. However, as we grow – we will incorporate a recycling program that allows you to come in and refill your wax. We’re just not there yet.
