What kind of wax do you use?
Our wax is all natural soy wax. Period. Often you’ll read labels that say “soy blend” which in many cases means a soy and paraffin wax blend, with paraffin wax being the majority.
We believe in using all natural soy wax; it’s produced from soybean crops and hydrogenated soybean oil. More importantly, soy wax is a from a renewable source and supports our U.S. farmers. Our wax outperforms petroleum-based paraffin in several ways from clean-burning, completely natural, environmentally friendly, longer burn times and candle spills clean up easier with just soap and water.
My candle has imperfections in it, does this mean I did something wrong?
No! On the contrary, imperfections in soy candles are a sure way to identify all natural soy candles, meaning it’s a good thing.
All natural soy candles can naturally have frosting (blooming) throughout the wax. Blooming, often called “frosting” is from the formation of crystals in the soybean oil which causes a color shift or causes the surface of the candle to appear dry.
This does not have any impact on scent throw; it’s simply a characteristic of all natural soy candles.
What do we use to scent our candles?
We use premium fragrance oils that adhere to RIFM and IFRA standards for safety and purity. All of our fragrance oils are Phthalate free and have not been tested on animals.
Fragrances are important and have the power to evoke memories and emotions. We fondly call these “smell notes”. Does the scent of apple pie mean just apple pie or does it remind you of something like grandma’s kitchen or apple picking as a child at your favorite orchard? During our workshops, we encourage blind scent exploration. This opens your senses without a preconceived thought or feeling about a particular scent.
How many scents do you carry?
Our growing library of scents currently contains 48 scents to choose from. Out of the 48 scents, 10 or so are our “rotators” meaning they rotate in and out according to season and upcoming holidays.
If we are using an all natural soy wax, why aren’t we using natural essential oils?
I am sensitive to fragrances, do you have any options for me?
We sure do! We understand that fragrant candles may not be everyone’s cup of tea and some people are more sensitive to smells than others. With this in mind, we encourage attending a workshop and making a scentless soy candle. Yes! There is such a beast. You will have the same experience, with the exception of the scent exploration. We use 100% soy for wax along with cotton wicks, so it’s a clean burn. If you omit the fragrance, you can still enjoy the ambiance of a burning candle.
I have my own vessel (or jars from a previous workshop), can I bring them with me to use?
Soy Candle Care
Soy jar candles have memory; each time you light your soy candle it remembers how far across the surface it melts. We recommend for better results and longer enjoyment of your soy candle to let the candle surface completely melt or liquefy across the surface before extinguishing. By doing this you will enjoy a longer lasting soy candle and it will help to prevent tunneling down the center. Most important is to always keep your wick trimmed to 1/4 inch.
